There was a door at the end of the passage where the map showed a wall. Its surface held no handle, only a narrow seam and a painted symbol half removed by years of cleaning. The ship had been searched twice. Neither search had found it.

A light appeared beneath the seam. For one second it outlined the shoes of someone standing on the other side. Then the light went out. The crew waited for footsteps. Instead, every clock in the passage advanced by the same missing minute.
